An Oscar, Hypocrisy, and the Environment
Congratulations, Mr. Gore, on your Oscar.  And my sympathies, for the pounding you’re taking for the seeming hypocrisy of advocating reduction of greenhouse gases while you live in a 10,000 sq. ft. home that consumes a formidable amount of energy for one family. It’s important that we Christians not get into a media feeding frenzy.  The mob mentality was featured most shamefully on Good Friday, when our Lord Jesus was crucified because of the screams and shouts of people who, on any other day, were not all that motivated for capital punishment for this slightly eccentric rabbi. And back to the topic of the environment – let’s be honest.  The Lord God has made us to be stewards and caretakers of planet earth and beyond.  He said that he wants us to take care of the earth.  But, it’s really still his property.  Psalm 24 reminds us that the earth is the Lord’s.  And so, we want to take care of it and not trash it or destroy it.  A conversation about wise energy stewardship, care of the planet, pollution and environmental degradation would be welcomed by every Christian who takes God’s word seriously. Let us as Christians be wise users of God’s bounties, careful in what we consume, and mindful of our environment.
